Pretty much. There may be consensus on what the best interpretation of data is, but it's not a compromise. Something wins out. Consensus suggests that we sit around and decide what is right based on what makes the most people happy.
It seems like the rules we use to weigh evidence are consensually based, at least to a certain extent. You know, why do we accept Okkham's razor and all that sort of thing?
